The film made $US16 million on its midnight premier, the most ever for a Wednesday midnight run and set an all-time record for a Wednesday gross, with a $55 million opening night.

The new movie, which opened in the UK on June 19, stars Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, and John Turturro, along with the voices of Peter Cullen, Hugo Weaving, Mark Ryan, Frank Welker, Jess Harnell, Charlie Adler, Robert Foxworth, Tony Todd, Tom Kenny, Grey DeLisle, and André Sogliuzzo

The film opens with a short prologue narrated by the voice of Optimus Prime. It depicts primitive human beings in the year 17,000 BC hunting a tiger, only to be interrupted by the appearance of the Fallen which attack them.

In the background, more Transformers can be seen constructing a gigantic device before the scene fades to black.

Two years after the events of the 2007 film, the Autobots have joined forces with the British and American military to form an organization named NEST to combat the Decepticons hiding out on Earth.

Filming began in Los Angeles, California, in May 2008, with the majority of interior scenes filmed at the former Hughes Aircraft soundstages at Playa Vista.

Paramount have announced a July 4, 2011 release date for a third Transformers film however director Michael Bay said Paramount made a mistake in dating Transformers 3 - “they asked me on the phone - I said yes to July 4 - but for 2012 - Not 2011”
