John Abraham bike1 250x278 Bipasha doesnt like sitting on my bike: John Abraham

New Delhi, John Abraham’s love for bikes is well-known but his lady love, actress Bipasha Basu, doesn’t like riding pillion with him for that very reason.

“Bipasha doesn’t like sitting on my bike because I am very passionate and possessive about my bike. When she sits, I keep saying ‘I hope you don’t leave a scratch on the bike and all that’, so that’s why she prefers a car to sitting behind me in a bike,” John told reporters here during an event.

John will be next seen in “Hook Ya Crook” and “1-1800 Love”.

John Abraham Spies On Jacqueline Fernandes

Wednesday, September 23, 2009 |

Jacqueline Fernandes is a top five star in the making as she coolly proved at the recent promotional event for Aladin, wearing a yellow satin shirt and green pencil-line skirt. Top hunk John Abraham has been one of the first to notice and has already signed her up for his as-yet unnamed in-house spy movie. "The movie is a spy thriller and required a glamorous chick," says a source for the movie, "Jacqueline will also be seen in a sporty avatar. The film goes on the floor early next year."

Tarun Masukhani of Dostana-fame is likely to start another project soon and also sees Jacqueline as a potential star. "For me, it's not just the matter of Jacqueline showing immense confidence in her first ever movie, but the fact that she has very good screen presence and her look can be tweaked around being Indian or Western as per the demand of the situation," he explains, "For me, that's her biggest selling point."

Australian-educated Jacqueline is very excited by her debut movie Aladin. "I'm really excited about working on it because it will be the first of its kind in Bollywood," she says, "The special effects will be done by the same people who worked on some of the Harry Potter, Matrix and Spiderman movies."

John Abraham is off the crutches but explains that the doctor has advised him not to walk too much for the next two weeks if he wishes to be back on his toes. The actor got a fracture while shooting for one of his movies, was on crutches while promoting another and now is busy providing shelter to the homeless.

In a candid chat with Renuka Vyavahare , John Abraham tells all about how humanity begins at home.

It’s not for nothing that John Abraham, the actor has been tagged as the ‘Habitat Hero’. “As a celebrity I am provided with a media platform and there is no harm in using your face for a social cause. Stardom comes with responsibility. All celebs lead a busy life, so do I, and so do the people who may not be famous but still strive hard to better others’ lives. If you mean good, you should do good,” said John.

For the actor, it all began at home. His mother Phiroza Irani has lent a hand and her heart to children suffering from cancer and the homeless, while Daddy Abraham, an architect, has done his bit by building earthquake proof and tsunami proof houses in Latur and Tsunami affected areas. “Upbringing is important and you need that inspiration at home. My parents are the reason why I support social causes... be it providing shelter, protecting animals or spreading health awareness. I recently provided homes to 30 homeless elephants...”

It was when John met former US President, Jimmy Carter that he was struck with the humanitarian syndrome. “I was stunned when I saw an 80 plus year old former President getting out in the hot sun in Lonavala and building houses. When I did it myself I realized how rewarding and satisfying it was. I built a house for an old lady; it made me happy. It’s different to sit in a board room meeting and talk causes and to actually go out there and do something.”

It’s no wonder then that good looking John Abraham, who doesn’t mind selling his favourite helmets and jackets to raise funds for causes, gets touted as a ‘youth icon’. “I am obsessively in love with my bikes but I don’t mind selling those, too, if that can bring happiness in people’s life. I want to get into the bloodstream of the youth as they are the driving force, they are my biggest connect and that is the audience I need to target to spread humanity.”

Kabir Khan’s “New York” looks at America after 9/11 through a Bollywood lens — and it’s less distorting than you might think. The story, which engages issues of ethnic profiling and terrorism, hinges on loyalty, love and friendship, a holy trinity of Hindi cinema.New York

Parts of the film play like a typical Bollywood romance. Before 9/11 a triangle forms — and is sealed in a song montage — at the leafy New York State University. Sam (John Abraham), who has been in the States since childhood, and Maya (Katrina Kaif), an American-born Indian, befriend Omar (Neil Nitin Mukesh), a newer arrival from Delhi. The athletic, all-American Sam wins Maya’s love. And then history intrudes.

Spoiler alert, from here on: After the terrorist attacks an innocent Sam gets in trouble with the F.B.I., which tosses him in a detention center, refuses his request for a lawyer and tortures him. (There’s a brief depiction of waterboarding.)

The ultrabuff Mr. Abraham, who has made a career of displaying his toned torso, here uses his body to show the privations that flesh is heir to. In a particularly powerful shot, a naked, shackled Sam is curled into a tiny boxlike cell that fills the movie frame.

While Mr. Khan’s depictions of American life occasionally seem silly and the plot has some crater-size holes, “New York” is continually fascinating. It benefits from the performance of Irrfan Khan, who adds layers of complexity to his character, a Muslim F.B.I. agent who recruits Omar to spy on Sam.

Indian films often deal with the problems faced by a Muslim minority. Transposed to the American context, those problems continue to resonate.
