Matthew Hayden dance to B'wood Tunes

Tuesday, July 28, 2009 |

It was also one of those rare moments when we caught Aussie cricket star Matthew Hayden dancing with abandon to Bollywood tunes.

But then, it wasn’t any party; it was the 7th anniversary celebrations of Dublin. And needless to say the crowds that poured in were kicked and raring to take on the night with full gusto.

The DJ for the occasion was none other than Akthtar Fazal, popularly called King of Indipop and Bollywood. He went out of his way to delight the guests with his wacky mixes of trademark Indian sounds!

Matthew Hayden for his part cut a cake to celebrate the occasion and socialised freely. He was overheard saying, “My favourite things to do are surf, cook and teach my seven- year-old daughter how to dance.” And judging by his moves, he must make a good teacher!

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly added another feather to his cap when he was awarded an honorary fellowship by the University of Central Lancashire.

Ganguly, who retired from international cricket late last year after playing 113 Tests and 311 ODIs, was conferred the fellowship for his "unparalleled determination coupled with grit and talent".

"It is a huge honour. When I came to know about this a few months ago, I felt proud and I'm happy to be here," Ganguly said after personally receiving the fellowship from Dharma Kovvuri, acting dean of UCLAN management faculty, on Wednesday at Lancashire.

"I have a long-term association with Lancashire -- I had my first One-day International at Old Trafford 13 years ago and had a stint with Lancashire County Cricket Club," the 37-year-old cricketer was quoted as saying in the 'Lancashire Evening Post'.

"The best thing I remember about Lancashire was in April 2000 when I turned up at 10 degree temperature. I was standing in the slips and couldn't take my hands out of my pockets as it was so cold. Luckily, Michael Atherton asked me to go at mid-on where I put some hand warmers in my pockets and kept myself warm," he added.

Ganguly said he would set up his own institution for children from pre-school to college age in Kolkata and build links with UCLan.

An Indian techie has allegedly hacked the Royal Australian Air Force website and posted a message asking Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's government to take all steps to stop racist attacks against Indian students.

Australia's Department of Defence has said the website was hacked between Monday and Tuesday but did not elaborate on the issue, The Age newspaper reported on Thursday.

Citing its sources, the paper said the message read, "This site has been hacked by Atul Dwivedi. This is a warning message to the Australian government. Immediately take all measures to stop racist attacks against Indian students in Australia or else I will pawn all your cyber properties like this one."

The department kept the entire RAAF website offline and replaced it with a page explaining that there had been "technical difficulties". The site has now been restored.

A Defence spokeswoman said the RAAF website was not used to conduct official air force business and no sensitive information had been stolen.

The internal "intranet" systems were secure and had not been compromised.

Twenty Indian students have been attacked in Australia since last month. Australia hosts over 5 lakh international students, including 97,000 Indians.

"No sensitive information was compromised as the air force internet website is hosted on an external server and, as such, does not hold any sensitive information," the spokeswoman said, adding "Further, the server is not connected to any operational Defence systems."

Defence Security Authority is conducting an investigation into the incident.

The department did not comment on the technical aspects or what action would be taken against the hacker, due to the "active investigation".

Though Saif Ali Khan’s first home production Love Aaj Kal stars Deepika Padukone with Saif, it’s been Kareena Kapoor who’s constantly been talked about not because Kareena has anything to do with the film but because she’s not in it.

This constant reference to a Rebecca-like presence in Love Aaj Kal has irked Deepika and she has apparently been wondering to her friends if Love Aaj Kal should be dedicated to Kareena!

Laughs Deepika, “Yes, this must be the first film in the history of cinema where a leading lady is so much talked about for not being in the film.

No, I’m not annoyed by these never ending references to Kareena. When people see the film I know they’ll come out talking about me and my performance. Imtiaz Ali was very sure he wanted only me in the film. ”

Deepika for the first time lets out a secret. “Imtiaz was so sure he wanted me for the part he had offered me Love Aaj Kal even before my first film Om Shanti Om was released. Even before seeing me on screen Imtiaz knew I was right for the role. So there was no question of any other actress being in the film. ”

Even Saif has gone on-record with his wistful yearnings for Kareena’s presence in Love Aaj Kal.

Sensible and strong-headed to the hilt Deepika reasons, “Considering Saif is in a relationship with Kareena isn’t it understandable if he wanted Kareena in Love Aaj Kal?

They’ve worked together in the past. And I’m sure he wants to work with her in his home productions. As for Kareena, if I was in her place I’d feel the same way. Don’t I want to work with Ranbir? ”

However she adds, “I wanted to work with Imtiaz long before Jab We Met when I saw his first film Socha Na Ttha.As this wide-eyed teenager I remember seeing the film and wondering who the director was. I remember many year ago when I was a model Imtiaz had offered me a film. At that time I wasn’t ready for an acting career”.

Deepika’s subtext is loud and clear. Imtiaz discovered her potential long before he discovered Kareena for Jab We Met.

Says Deepika, “In fact when I had told him I was’t ready to join films Imtiaz had said, ‘When you’re ready let me know. ’ He kept his promise. That’s how I got Love Aaj Kal. So now I’m not affected by people talking more about Kareena than me “

Deepika says she has too much on her plate to be bothered with what her colleagues are up to. “I’ve been trying to finish off everything and go to London to shoot for Sajid Khan’s House Full.

I get tired of my schedules sometimes. I may be an athlete at heart. But being an actor means you also have to be a juggler.

Riya Sen looks ‘anmol’ in Her shots for Agni jewelry

Wednesday, July 15, 2009 |

Riya Sen may not have had a joy ride to success on the silver screen, but the girl has definitely made her mark as one of the sexiest actresses in Bollywood. She has once again done what she is best at in her next flick ‘Shaadi of the Dead’, that is playing the role of a seductress. Riya is also known for her bent towards jewelry designing and is also known for designing her own clothes. She has had the honors of being tagged as the 50 Most Beautiful Women in 2007 by Femina.

Given the kind of beauty and appeal associated with her, she always has been associated with reputed brands. This time she has done some glamorous shots in pink for brand promotion of Agni Jewels with tagline… “Anmol, aap hi ki tarah”.

It's time for the red carpet to be laid out. Aladin is aiming for a Diwali release and as the film hits the screens, Bollywood would also see the arrival of its 'most exotic' import ever - Jacqueline Fernandes.

All set to regale the audience with a lethal mix of cute persona and some sensuality, Jacqueline is finally being unveiled by the makers of Aladin. "Well, the journey has just begun. Last one year was quite happening but now it is going to be even more exciting times with Aladin being round the corner", she says.

Over the last few months, Jacqueline was closely guarded for all the right reasons. 2008 had seen quite some noise being made around the number of newcomer girls (Asin, Anushka) while Aladin was still quite some distance away.

Says Sujoy Ghosh, the film's director and co-producer, "There was no point for anyone associated with the film to gaga over Jacqueline because of two major reasons. First and foremost she had just stepped into the industry and she wanted to focus on doing a good job in her debut film. Secondly, it was felt that her being 'exposed' to millions out there so soon would have resulted in an over exposure."

The protective director goes on to add, "Since Jacqueline is one of the four major protagonists of the film, other than Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Riteish Deshmukh, she has always been someone special. Now is the time for her to reach out to the world and I am sure Bollywood followers out there would be stunned with what they see of her."

Jacqueline gets nostalgic while remembering the times she spent on the film's sets, "Playing Jasmine was all fun and frolic with just the right ingredients of quintessential Bollywood 'naach gaana' routine and countless romantic and dramatic moments. It couldn't have been a better start."

Considering the fact that 2009 is perking up now after a dry beginning, it only makes Jacqueline's arrival in the industry even more precious. An import from Sri Lanka who already has a beauty pageant crown in her kitty (she was Miss Sri Lanka 2006), Jacqueline has been academically inclined as well, as apparent from her degree in Media and Communications from Sydney, Australia.

Ambitious to the core, she had once stated - "Being independent and accomplished was imperative to me and I always demanded the best of myself. Perfectionism is my strongest asset."

That's something which is pretty much on display, as clear from her choice for her debut film Aladin which is a co- production of Eros and Sujoy's 'Boundscript' and stars none other than Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt along with Riteish Deshmukh.

Says Jacqueline while spreading out that million dollar smile of hers, "The way Riteish's character is fleshed out in the movie, it was all rather cute. However, nothing can beat the excitement of working with Mr. Bachchan and Mr. Dutt. In a way, they were just the antithesis of Riteish. I couldn't have been luckier."

Actor Akshay Kumar believes in letting bygones be bygones. His recent Bollywood movie Kambakkht Ishq was responsible in bringing Akshay Kumar and his ex-flame Pooja Batra together once again.
It is believed that it was Pooja Batra who helped Kambakkht Ishq filmmaker Sabbir Khan to get in touch with Hollywood casting agents. That's how the casting of international actors like Sylvester Stallone, Brandon Routh and Denise Richards came about.

It was surprising to see Pooja Batra mingling with Akshay Kumar and wife Twinkle Khanna at Kambakkht Ishq’s success party.

It can be recalled that prior to this, Akshay Kumar also patched up with his other ex-girlfriend Shilpa Shetty. The duo came face to face during Fear Factor's promotion on an episode of Big Boss which was anchored by Shilpa Shetty.

Post that Shilpa Shetty expressed her desire to cast him for a film produced by her production house. Reacting to it he said he wouldn't mind working with Shilpa Shetty again provided a good script came their way.
